Kilombero Valley Ramsar Site
It is among the four recognized Tanzania’s wetlands of international importance. The valley has a flood plain which collects its water from a catchment of about 40,000 square kilometers.

Home to more than 75% of world population of the Puku Antelope with the famous seasonally Lake like flood plain in the whole of East Africa with a mystery alternate flood plain and endless grassland at different seasons of a year. Entirely flooded and inundated plains during rainy season with a huge and impressive floodplain with benign environment for aquatic species.
Animals to find
Puku antelope, buffalo, elephant, hippopotamus, lion, fish species, bird species and water birds.
Panicum maximum, Pennisetum spp., Kigelia pinnata, Longocarpus capassa, Combretum spp., Papyrus (Cyperus papyrus), transitional wooded grasslands, Miombo woodlands such as Brachyetegia, and Julbernardia.

How to access?
The Kilombero Valley is about 400 km from Dar es Salaam; accessible by railway and light aircrafts, which can land at Ifakara airstrip. Its about eight hours drive from the city of Dar es Salaam.
